Here is my most recent project. I served as the producer and editor as well as sharing the responsibilities of the cinematographer with Will Anderson the director of the piece.

Adapted from a monologue from Dan O’Brien’s “Key West.” By using the location of the Old LA Zoo, “Forgotten” creates a surreal world where Brigid waits for her father to return. For the first time, she explains to her dead father the pain she felt as he left her behind to care for herself.

Elon in LA

Over the past 4 weeks I have had the opportunity to attend the Elon in Los Angeles Program. I have been taking a production class every monday taught by Elon Professor J McMerty at the American Film Institute, and interning the other 4 days of the week at Precision Production + Post in Culver City, CA. Check back over the next few weeks for the projects I am working on during my time out here as well as other happenings about LA.

Hooked on Phoenix

After failing at updating my blog for many months, I feel like it is time to start blogging again. In my opinion, there is no way more fitting that helping to show a new project Halcyon video. Yes, Will, David, Dan and Greg are at it again, they have just released their newest video, “Hooked on Phoenix.” I have to say that I am extremely proud of these guys and how much work that they have put into this video. So without wasting any more time, enjoy “Hooked on Phoenix.”

So while I had the privilege of helping film a few of the scenes where the entire group appeared, my main role in the production was the creation of the club scene. I was responsible for the set design and the lighting design for the club scene as well as working the Jib during the filming of this scene. The design was challenging because we were not sure if we were going to have twenty people a hundred people show up so I had to prepare for both. However, I was extremely happy on how it turned out.

Also, I will be traveling to Sundance film festival this Sunday and will be there for a class. During our time there we will be maintaining a blog, twitter and facebook. We will be working on a variety of smaller projects during the festival that we will post on our blog http://thespiritofsundance.wordpress.com/. I will also be working on turning this into a longer project (possibly a documentary) after we return to campus. Also, be sure to follow our class on twitter and friend us on Facebook.

DMC: Final Project

For my final digital media convergence project we had the creative freedom to make any kind of video from 1 second to 5 minutes long. For my project I decided to do a behind the music documentary of a group of my friends called projectHalcyon. This project was a lot of fun and i think it turned out really well. I hope you enjoy it.

Our final photography assignment for my digital media convergence class was portrait photography. I wanted to try doing more posed photography during this assignment since most of my photography up to this point was not posed (except surreal). While I enjoyed taking posed pictures, I much prefer the spontaneity of street photography. Here are five of my portraits.

projectHalcyon is at it again. Their most recent video is going to be a part of Elon’s newest television show Elon Tonight. Elon Tonight is Elon’s first ever sketch comedy show, and it will be premiering next fall. pH has been chosen to be the music group for the show, much like lonely island is the music group for Saturday Night Live.

The video, “Ode to Smith Jackson,” is a tribute to our Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Smith Jackson who is known all over campus for his mass e-mails to the student body about anything from crimes on campus to school closings. I hope you enjoy the most recent pH project.

DMC: Surreal Photography

Our most recent assignent was surreal photography. I think this may have surpassed street photography as my favorite photography assignment this year. The hardest part of this assignment was the planning. I could go out and take hundreds of pictures, but if I hadn’t planned right they wouldn’t have turned out right. The picture of my friend Candice sitting at every desk in the room is my favorite because it shows for the amount of work I put into it, but I think the picture of my friend Amanda with her “soul” floating away is probably my best picture. Overall I had a lot of fun doing this project and think they turned out well. Here are my 5 surreal pictures.

Our most recent video project for Digital Media Convergence was to film a time lapse. This was a fun assignment for me, because it was the first time in the class that we had a project with the video cameras, and it challenged me to set up a good frame that would be interesting to watch. My original idea for this project was to film several locations in St. Louis over spring break, unfortunately my spring break did not go as planned. However, when I got back on campus I started thinking about what I wanted to film. I chose the train tracks by my dorm because I have heard the trains everyday during my first year at Elon. I had originally planned to film when an Amtrak train was scheduled to pass, however I was lucky and filmed a freight train not only going forwards, but also being backed up. I hope you enjoy it.

EPW: Women’s Basketball Season Recap

My most recent project for the Elon Phoenix Weekly was to produce a season recap for the Women’s Basketball team. This is my second package I produced for this show. This particular project was hard for me to produce because getting in contact with the athletes was difficult. Also, this was my first experience setting up lighting for an interview which was a challenge, but I feel I did a good job. Even with how crazy this project was and how stressful that week was, I still enjoyed doing it which tells me I am in the right field.

DMC: Themed Photography-Interaction

We were recently assigned a project to go out and choose a theme for our pictures and stick to that theme. For my pictures I chose to focus on interactions between different people. This was the hardest project yet because I spent the weekend sick with a cold. Luckily, the weather outside was beautiful which allowed me to stay outside for several hours without getting sicker. Out of my interaction pictures I have again chosen what I feel are my best 10 representations of interactions.
